Inner and Outer Tracking

  • Tomales Bay Trail (map)
The interior landscape responds to the character and subtlety of the exterior landscape; the shape of the individual mind is affected by the land as it is by genes.
— Barry Lopez

Magic happens when we walk slowly and quietly in nature. The world comes alive around us and within us. Time grows long and those tight, stuck feelings find space to unwind, diffuse and transform. As our curiosity and attention land and stay with our breathing, with that lonely place in our chest, with a flower, with a California Quail standing guard on a rock outcropping, our sense of a separate self expands into a larger self. One that includes the song of the Wrentit, the fog bank on the horizon, the sensation of pebbles under your feet and the low drone of the bumble bees in the ceaonothus.

Inner and outer tracking is an ongoing series that can be taken consecutively or as a drop-in. Using mindfulness techniques, ecotherapy, walking meditation, natural history and the sights, sounds, tracks and signs of animals, this 2 hour walk strengthens positive neural pathways in the brain, lowers stress, and helps you create connection with the natural world and the bioregion where you live. (Please note: This class does not focus on animal tracking techniques, but rather on tracking the inner process while being in relationship to the outer world.)

RSVP is essential. Please use the form below to sign up and I will respond with further details. The class is $20, payable in cash or check at our meeting.
